The Spur-Of-The-Moment Shakespeare Collective (SOTMSC) is now accepting submissions for a COMPANY PRODUCER as a management-level position.
OVERVIEW
SOTMSC is seeking an entrepreneurial, organized, adaptable, and detail oriented Company Producer to assist in artistic programming, planning and executing fundraising efforts, media, grant writing, and contracts. The ideal applicant will learn the specific company characteristics and work closely with the Artistic Director to run SOTMSC. While you will also be involved in the producing of individual productions, please note that as Company Producer, you will also be involved in the day-to-day operation of the company as a whole.
The Spur-Of-The-Moment Shakespeare Collective (SOTMSC) was founded in March 2010 by Victoria Urquhart and Sean Horbatiuk, to cultivate a community of emerging artists with a shared interest in Shakespeare and street theatre. Our first work was the Shakespeare-On-The-Subway Project (summer 2010), the goal of which was to provide opportunities for high school students to see Shakespearean performance for free, outside of an institutionalized context.
The SOTMSC continues to grow and develop projects in 2015, under the mandate of: Establishing and cultivating community engagement in areas in and around Toronto experiencing isolation based on economic, social, and physical barriers. Our mission statement is to marry classical text, contemporary performance, and audience interaction to invite and encourage people to dialogue and engage with their community.
BASIC FUNCTION
Reporting to and collaborating closely with the Artistic & Executive Director, the Producer is an integral part of the Creative team. The Producer will take an active or supportive role in the artistic identity and life of the company and in all areas including outreach and community development.
PROGRAMMING
- Oversee the SOTMSC’s operations, managing and promoting our growing repertoire of productions, events and partnerships in a wide range of local and national venues and contexts
- Collaborating with staff on the management and execution of program budgeting and reconciliation
- Ensuring Billing and Communications accuracy
- Participating in production post-mortems
- Collaborating and maintaining programming schedule for use by all departments reflecting tour, production and presentation scheduling
- Collaborating on casting and creative team selection
GRANT MANAGEMENT
Ongoing support and collaboration for development proposals, grants, applications and reports including actively participating with the creative team in the pursuit of public sector grants for the company as a whole including researching, writing and reporting on various granted initiatives
OTHER DUTIES WHICH MAY INCLUDE
Acting as a SOTMSC representative at artistic community events, meetings and performances, actively participating in the broader sector
IDEAL EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- A passion for Shakespeare and brining theatre to audiences who need it the most
- An education in either:
- Arts Administration
- Theatre
- Social Work or Humanities with an interest in Community Development through the arts
- Experience in management or producing in an artistic discipline, preferably live performance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present effectively internally and externally from Board level to peers and subordinates as well as patrons, donors and community business and government leaders;
- An action-oriented, confident, articulate self-starter who is creative, energetic, entrepreneurial, collaborative and team-oriented.
