Shakespeare Intensives 2015For the first time ever, the SOTMSC has launched a series of Shakespeare Intensives that allow you, the artistic community, to play and work with the same directors and guest artists that we have in the Shakespeare-In-Hospitals 2015 Program.
Whether you want to learn more about classical text in auditioning, collaborative creation, or even in combination with other fabulous story-telling techniques, our team will be able to supply through these fantastic sessions. Each session is only $100, and all funds go towards- you guess it- the Shakespeare-In-Hospitals 2015 Program! For those looking to book multiple sessions, we can give you 3 at a discounted price of $265.00. |
SUZUKI AND SHAKESPEARE- Sept 17th, 6-10PM
With Stephanie Carpanini (BOUT, Toronto Fringe 2015)
“Through a series of precise and demanding exercises, Suzuki training disciplines the actor’s body, mind and voice to command attention and to express the full dynamic potential of the actor. Suzuki training awakens the warrior in every actor to create and harness power in performance.”
In this intensive, SITI's Skidmore Summer graduate Stephanie Carpanini shares her knowledge of “speaking through the physical experience”, and its combination with classical text. Join us as we experiment with Suzuki and Viewpoints!
SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE #2
BUILDING PRINCIPLES OF SHAKESPEARE-October 17th 6-10PM
with JAMES WALLIS (Shakespeare BASH’d)
Looking for a tune-up? Or even just a chance to play with a piece fast and loose? James Wallis from Shakespeare BASH'd (Best of Fringe '12) leads a day of play with a variety of scenes and your choice of monologues.
“Putting a fresh face on one of the world’s most famous plays is a daunting task, but director James Wallis’ bare bones philosophy and immersive approach is up to the challenge.”—Annie Hodgins, Theatromania
**Please note, this class is strictly for digging into the text, and is not an audition intensive. People interested in learning more about the Shakespeare Audition can check out another one of our intensives happening November 2nd and 3rd. **
SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE #3
SHAKESPEARE AND CHEKHOV-Saturday October 25th 12-4PM
with ERIKA DOWNIE (Seven Siblings Theatre)
“The nephew of Anton Chekhov and Stanislavsky’s ‘most brilliant pupil’, was known as one of Russia’s most outstanding and innovative actors and directors, who intrigued his audience with his character interpretations that were extremely alive and imaginative.
He developed an acting technique, a ‘psycho-physical approach’, in which transformation, working with impulse, imagination and inner and outer gesture are central. It offers clear and practical tools in working with imagination, feelings and atmosphere.”
Come out and explore what happens when we combine this with Shakespearean text through the mastery of certified Chekhov Instructor and Shakespeare-In-Hospitals 2015 Director Erika Downie.
SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE #4
AUDITIONING SHAKESPEARE- Monday November 2nd and Tuesday November 3rd 12-3PM
with ANDREW JOSEPH RICHARDSON
Andrew Joseph Richardson, over two short days, will help you sharpen up your Shakespearean speech, using a blend of techniques in rhetoric, imagery, and text analysis which you will be able to apply to your other pieces moving forward!
A.J. is an actor, director, dramaturg, and founding member of Shakespeare in the Ruff, for whom he is also the Coordinator of the Guerrilla Ruffian Shakespeare Squad. This summer, his adaptation of The Tempest was directed by Diane D'Aquila for Theatre Calgary's Shakespeare by the Bow while in Toronto, he appeared in Shakespeare BASH'd's The Merry Wives of Windsor at the Fringe and in Shakespeare in the Ruff's Macbeth - Walking Shadows.
SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE #5
CLASSICAL TEXT AND COLLABORATIVE CREATION- Monday November 23rd 6-10PM
with ALI JOY RICHARDSON
CONTENT TBA
SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE #6
PLAY-IN-A-DAY- Monday December 7th 2-8PM
with SCOTT EMERSON MOYLE
How can we use non-traditional performance spaces to find a new audience for classic works? Dauntless City
Theatre founder Scott Emerson Moyle works with partiipants, young and old to answer that
question. Breaking open conventions of staging, honouring the spirit of the text while playing fast and loose
with the rules, and being fearlessly weird in public are all a part of ongoing trial and error. This intensive will
begin with a discussion of principles, but mostly we're going to take over a space that isn't a theatre and do
some art in it.
